National Licensing Exam
NATIONAL EXAM
Graduates of Practical Nursing Programs in Canada must write a registration examination before being licensed to practice. The LPN examination is the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE). In consultation with the exam provider, Meazure Learning, the CLPNNL offers 6 CPNRE writing windows annually.
CPNRE results are reported as “Pass” or “Fail.” Candidates have a maximum of 4 opportunities to pass the registration examination in the 36-month period immediately following their eligibility to write and will not be permitted a further opportunity to write the exam without re-completing a full practical nursing program. There must be a 45 day break between scheduled writings.
Examination results are released to candidates from the CLPNNL office. Please view the CPNRE Policy for all information related to the exam.
The CPNRE is delivered using secure online web-based technology, using Meazure Learnings partner ProctorU. For more information on how to prepare for the CPNRE exam please click here to watch the video.
Accommodations for the CPNRE
Exam accommodations are modifications to exam procedures or conditions to ensure fair testing for persons with disabilities or impairments
CLPNNL will consider accommodation requests based on a professional diagnosis of a disability or impairment and will take any reasonable and justifiable measures to accommodate an applicant. The information requested in the Testing Accommodation Application form and any documentation regarding your disability and need for accommodation to take the examination will be treated confidentially. It will not be shared with any outside source without your expressed written permission. Requested accommodations are subject to the approval of CLPNNL and the testing agency.
Applicants requesting testing accommodations must:
- Complete the Testing Accommodation Application Form
- Attach official documentation confirming your disability or impairment from a qualified professional.* A qualified professional has the professional qualification to assess, diagnose and/or treat the disability or impairment.
Print the Testing Accommodation Form along with your official documentation confirming your disability or impairment. These documents must be uploaded in the Exam Candidate Application Form in your CLPNNL member portal. If you have any other questions related to accommodations please contact the office.
CLPNNL must receive all required accommodation-related documents at least six (6) weeks before your eligible exam date. If the College does not receive the documents, your request for accommodation cannot be considered.
